Food Pantry / FaithWorks / Prescription Assistance
Covington First Food Pantry feeds over a thousand families a year from the generosity of our congregation. Our Food Pantry Chairman, Buster Gregory, searches out the most economical purchases to provide two bags of food per family, per visit, every two months. These bags provide enough food for a family of four for one week. Faithful volunteers come to the church every week and package up the bags of food. Joyce Lancaster handles the schedule of volunteers that work the the food pantry desk on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:30-3:30 pm. The food pantry is funded by generous donations from members of Covington First and other memorials and honoriums given by church members and members of the community. If you would like to volunteer to work in the food pantry, please email Joyce by Clicking Here.
FaithWorks is a ministry that serves the needy of Newton County with emergency rent and utility assistance. Our church is one of 19 Founding Member churches who assist this ministry through prayer and volunteers, as well as financial help. Our Administrative Council voted to assist this ministry with a portion of the Pastor's Fund / Benevolence Fund. ALL monies given by the 19 local churches for this ministry go to helping the needy -- NONE is used for operational support. Members of our congregation volunteer to work shifts at FaithWorks. For questions about FaithWorks please call 770-784-1884.
Prescription Assistance is provided by application to approved persons in the community when funds are available. All monies available are from generous and giving members of Covington First UMC.
